Pray purposefully – Zielbewusst beten

EN English DE Deutsch

Praying Purposefully We read in 1 Samuel 1: 9–20 that Hannah was childless – and therefore very sad. Her sadness was so great that she just cried and didn’t want to eat any more. But then Elkanah was her husband. He looked deeper than just in the eyes. He looked into the heart.

He asked her three questions and tried to comfort her:

  • Hanna why are you crying?
  • Are you sad because you have no children?
  • I am not worth much more to you than ten sons

Have we already put similar questions to our partner? Often we cannot change a situation, but we can empathize, support and be merciful.

Hannah had a strong desire to go to the Lord’s house. The Bible says:

One day, when Hannah had again found it difficult to bring down a few bites, she withdrew from the others and went to the sanctuary of the Lord; there the old priest Eli sat on a chair next to the door from verse 9 (HFA)

There she was waiting for an answer from the Lord. She prayed purposefully: The goal of the wishes was to have a son. Your request was heard:

She became pregnant and gave birth to a son. „I asked God for a son,“ she said, and therefore called him Samuel („asked of God“). (Verse 20 HFA)

A word of value says:
„Man’s greatest need is God’s opportunity!“

Perhaps we too are in a big internal conflict and have struggles: Illness, injuries due to unjust treatment, difficulties in studying or working life (bullying) or in bringing up children, etc.?

Sometimes the Lord allows us to get into emergency situations, but where human resources are exhausted, trust God’s Word and pray with David:

Hear me, Lord, when I call! Have mercy on me and answer! I remember that you said: „Seek my closeness!“ I want to do that now and come to you in prayer. Psalm 27: 7 + 8 (HFA)

But I am certain that I will stay alive and see how well God means me. Trust in the Lord! Be strong and courageous, trust in the LORD! Psalm 27, 13 + 14 (HFA)

Zielbewusst beten Wir lesen in 1.

  • Bist du traurig, weil du keine Kinder hast?

(Vers 20 HFA)

Psalm 27, 13+14 (HFA)
